The warm glow of string lights stretched across the night sky as laughter and music filled the air. It had been months since the Great Shift turned the world upside down, swapping billions of souls into unfamiliar bodies. For Daniel and Rebecca, it had been more than just strange — it had been life-altering. They had gone to bed as a straight engaged couple and woken up in the bodies of their charming, younger, and openly gay neighbors, Mateo and Lucas.
At first, they had clung desperately to the hope of reversing it, scouring news reports, visiting scientists, even entertaining online conspiracy theories. But when the months dragged on without a solution, they began to accept that this — these new bodies, this new life — was permanent.
What neither of them had expected, however, was how deeply they would still love each other. More than that — how deeply their new bodies seemed to want each other. The first tentative kiss had been awkward, fueled by confusion and fear. But soon, every touch felt natural, every glance electric. The love they had always shared remained, but it was now tangled with the undeniable chemistry that their borrowed forms carried.
And now, under the canopy of lights and surrounded by friends, family, and fellow Shift survivors, they were celebrating their wedding day — as Mateo and Lucas.
