TG Day, an event that happens at the beginning of every semester at colleges across the nation aiming to help participating students and faculty understand life across gender lines. These are their stories.
Maddie had always been curious about what life was like as a guy. So, when her college announced TG Day—a unique tradition where students could swap genders for a semester—she eagerly signed up. Her main motivation? Her boyfriend, Frank. She figured if she became a guy, she could spend more time with him and his friends, seeing life from his perspective.
When she woke up after the transformation, she barely recognized herself. Her soft features were replaced with a strong jawline, messy brown hair, and a lean, toned physique. She examined her new reflection in the mirror, running a hand over her sharper features. The stubble on her chin felt foreign, and her deepened voice caught her off guard. Dressed in just a pair of grey sweatpants, she felt an unfamiliar sense of confidence.
Excited to surprise Frank, she quickly got dressed is some clothes the school provided her and hurried across campus to his frat house.
But when she entered the back yard and saw him sitting on the stoop, Maddie’s jaw nearly dropped. Frank had participated in TG Day, too.
Sitting before her was a stunning brunette with delicate features, wide green eyes, and a familiar nervous smile. “Maddie?” Frank asked in a soft, feminine voice.
Maddie burst into laughter. “You swapped too?”
Frank blushed. “Yeah… I thought if I became a girl, I could understand you better. But I guess you had the same idea.”
The two stared at each other, realizing they had both gone through a radical change just to grow closer. It wasn’t the semester either of them expected—but maybe, it would be even better.
