Claire hummed to herself as she stepped out of the shower, wrapping a towel around her body. She ran a hand through her wet hair, pausing for a moment. Her fingers brushed over unfamiliar stubble along her jawline.
“What the…” she muttered, turning to the mirror.
The face staring back wasn’t hers. It was a rugged, middle-aged man with dark, wet hair clinging to his forehead, a strong jaw covered in stubble, and broad shoulders that didn’t belong to her at all. Claire stumbled back, gripping the sink as the towel fell to her feet. Her hands were large, rougher than before. Her chest—flat.
A deep, unfamiliar voice slipped from her lips. “Oh my god.”
A burst of laughter echoed from outside the bathroom.
“Ryan!” Claire’s voice was low, gravelly, and furious. She yanked open the door and grabbed the towel off the floor, barley covering her much larger frame.
Ryan was already cackling, doubled over on the couch. “Oh my god, it worked!” he wheezed.
“What did you do to me?!” Claire stormed into the living room, her heavy footsteps shaking the floor.
“Relax, it’s just an April Fools’ prank!” Ryan grinned, backing up slightly. “It’s a magic powder I found online. It should wear off by midnight!”
Claire’s scowl deepened. “You turned me into a man!”
“Not just any man,” Ryan said between laughs. “You look like you should be someone’s dad!”
Claire grabbed him by the collar, effortlessly lifting him onto his toes. “You better hope this wears off, Ryan,” she growled, her new deep voice sending a shiver down her own spine.
Ryan gulped. “Uh… Happy April Fools?”
