TG Day, an event that happens at the beginning of every semester at colleges across the nation aiming to help participating students and faculty understand life across gender lines. These are their stories.
When Leilani signed up for TG Day at the beginning of the semester, she thought it would be a fun social experiment—just a chance to see what life was like as a guy for a few months. She hadn’t thought about the fact that she had already booked a spring break trip with her friends. Back when she was still, well, Leilani.
Now, standing waist-deep in the turquoise ocean, she looked down at her reflection, barely recognizing herself. Her soft curves had been replaced with a sculpted chest and defined abs. Her face was still hers in some ways—her deep brown skin, full lips—but her features were sharper, her jawline more pronounced. The long braids she used to love were gone, replaced with a short, textured afro. Even her voice, deep and smooth, felt unfamiliar every time she spoke.
