You muttered a wish, half-joking, half-serious: “I wish they’d treat me like an adult.”

In this new reality, you were in your mid-50s, a well-built man with a gruff voice and a confident presence. They all respected you. Listened when you spoke.
The wish had worked. But not how you expected.
