The Witch’s Easter Surprise - What’s Always Been

Jessica hadn’t told anyone she was trans—not even her little sister. Not her friends. Definitely not her parents. Growing up in a strict religious household, she learned early on to keep that part of herself locked away. She smiled when expected, wore what was expected, and quietly carried the weight of knowing she wasn’t the girl everyone thought she was.

So when her little sister tugged her along to the town’s annual Easter egg hunt, Jessica followed—if only for the distraction. It was sweet, really. Her sister bounced through the park in her bunny-ear headband, collecting eggs with a giggle that made everything else fade away.

Then her sister spotted it: a blue egg with gold swirls, half-buried near a tree. “This one’s for you!” she said proudly, placing it in Jessica’s hand. “It’s special. I can tell.”

Jessica smiled and tucked it into her coat pocket. “Thanks, kiddo.”

It wasn’t until that night—right before dinner—that she finally sat alone on the edge of her bed and opened the egg.

Empty.

She blinked, confused. No candy. No note. Just silence. She laughed dryly, setting it aside. “Figures.”

She stepped into the shower a few minutes later, letting the hot water wash the day away. But almost immediately, something changed.

A sudden warmth pulsed from deep within her chest, like magic working its way through muscle and bone. Her body trembled as she felt her figure begin to shift—soft curves giving way to firm lines, narrow shoulders broadening, her face subtly reshaping.

She gasped and grabbed the edge of the sink, fogged mirror clearing just enough for her to see him.

Herself. Truly herself.

A lean, tattooed man stared back—confident, strong, and finally right.

Jessica laughed, breath shaky with joy. Not fear. Not panic. Relief.

The egg hadn’t given her candy. It had given her the truth.

And when her mom called out, “Dinner’s ready, James!” it felt natural—like it had always been this way.

Because now… it had.
