The Witch’s Easter Surprise - Karma in a Shell

Tanner, Max, and Jace weren’t exactly the spirit of Easter. The high school seniors had shown up to the town egg hunt with one mission: snatch as many eggs as possible—from little kids. The younger girls were easy pickings, and the boys found it hilarious.

“Seriously, they don’t even try to hide these,” Max said, cracking open a pastel blue egg he’d yanked from a girl in pink leggings.

Jace laughed. “Better in our basket than theirs.”

Then Tanner spotted it—an egg unlike the rest. Shimmering pink, with a gold swirl dancing along the shell. “Yo, this one looks fancy,” he said, grinning. “Bet it’s got something special.”

He didn’t know how right he was.

He popped it open.

A sudden gust of wind whooshed through the field. The sky seemed to shimmer for just a moment as a rush of glittering light exploded from the egg. It wrapped around the boys like a whirlwind, and before they could shout, everything changed.

Shoes flopped off shrinking feet. Hoodies and jeans hung loose as they rapidly shrank down—hair growing longer, faces softening, bodies shifting. Within seconds, the cocky teenage boys were gone.

In their place stood three preteen girls, no older than twelve.

“Wha—what is this?” Tanner gasped, her voice now high-pitched and unfamiliar. She looked down at herself—slimmer arms, delicate hands, long brown hair brushing against her cheeks.

Max stumbled back, now sporting a pale pink hoodie and jean shorts. “We’re… girls?!”

Jace’s reflection in a passing car window confirmed the worst: curly hair, wide eyes, a face that was both unfamiliar and unmistakably hers. “No. Freaking. Way.”

But the world around them didn’t blink. No one stared. No one screamed. To everyone else, they had always been girls. Their memories were intact, but reality had rewritten itself.

A voice called out across the grass, “Talia! Maddie! Jess! Let’s go, girls!”

They turned.

It was Tanner’s mom. Smiling, waving them over like everything was normal.

Talia. Maddie. Jess.

The names hit like a punch to the gut.

The egg hunt was over.

But their new lives were just beginning.
